Healing Distress Organization

The Reality: Unhealed Wounds and Discrimination

Cambodians carry unique, generational layers of trauma and suffering. Decades of war, poverty, and the Khmer Rouge genocide forced a resilient population to focus entirely on survival. To protect their families, many had no choice but to move forward without ever truly healing.

Today, this pain remains tucked deep inside, leaving unhealed wounds and trauma that pass from one generation to the next. Unfortunately, mental health struggles still carry a heavy stigma in Cambodia. Those facing these battles— as well as the professionals who choose to help them—often endure discrimination.

To break this cycle, the Healing Distress Organization provides a safe space for Cambodians in remote, hard-to-reach areas to find hope and begin their healing journey.
